Google doesn’t need Firefox anymore, and that’s an existential threat to Mozilla. In terms of revenue, the independent not-for-profit Mozilla foundation, maker of the open source Firefox browser, might as well be a wholly owned subsidiary of Google. Through a deal in which Google is the default search engine for Firefox, the search giant provided 84% of Mozilla's revenue in 2010, according to its annual report (pdf). That's more than $100 million.
